I was playing the piano one afternoon after eating lunch. In the room where the piano is, there are two doors that have glass that is faded so you can't see clearly through the doors. I see a shadow move across the doors. Knowing it must be my grandma I opened the doors. I find her standing up holding in one hand a straw, and the other, a birthday card since her birthday was last week. I asked her what she was doing with the straw.
"I'm thirsty."
I look on her table to find water sitting there. I also see she hasn't eaten all of her sandwich so I tell her to eat. She is standing by the head of her recliner with the two items I described earlier. She was trying to put the straw through the card.
"Grandma, what are you doing?"
"I'm thirsty."
"You have water right there."
She goes on to try and put the straw through a tissue. So I gave up.
She must be thirsty for anything!
This blog is a tribute to my lovely grandmother, Winifred Cook. These will be sayings that she has said that I thought was funny so I decided to share it :)

Our Pool!
It was getting later in the day one afternoon when I decided to trek into my grandmother's room. I saw her standing over her chest of drawers and asked her what she was doing.
"Well, I'm sending in the money."
"For what grandma?"
"The pool. Do you have yours covered?"
(Going along with it) "Yes I do."
"What about the river?"
"Oh no, I don't have the river covered."
"Well, I need as much clouds as I can get!"
I'm hoping that my grandmother is implying that she is buying us a pool!

Pudding
It was a nice calm day after a windy storm the previous day. *whining* oh, look at the time, it is time to take out Buddy (our dog). I take him out and decide to vacuum while he's going to the bathroom. I'm vacuuming and I realize Buddy has gone into my grandmother's room and I yell at him to get out. He comes out and then goes right back into her room. I yell again and he comes out and so I put down the vacuum to see what's going on in there. So I go into my grandma's room to find her sitting in her chair, bending down to the trash can.
A little background to before Buddy went in her room. Before I took out Buddy I gave my grandma some vanilla pudding to have her eat something sweet.
I found her leaning over the trash can putting pudding on this plastic plate that was in the garbage so Buddy could eat it. I asked her what she was doing and she said "I'm just giving the dog the little bit that was left on the edges."
I looked down at the pudding on the plate. There was almost half of the pudding cup on the plate.

The Dryer
It was a windy afternoon when a storm was rolling in. I had been working and realized it was later than what time I usually fix my grandmother lunch. I hurried and fixed her a sandwich and took it into her room. She was leaning over her bed playing with her clothes when I asked "what are you doing?"
As to which she replies "oh just fixing the dryer. It has been broken for a while and I just need to add some soap and some water and then it will be as good as new!"
Good thing my grandma is a handy-woman! My washer in my apartment is broken and maybe she'll fix it right up.

My Clock
*rrrr* *rrrr* Ah! Time for my grandmother's pills again. I walk into her room as I hold her pills in one hand. I see her to my left, she is looking down at something as she stands up. I ask her what she is doing. "Oh just fixing my clock. It's no big deal because I don't know what to do but I usually do a good job anyway."
"Oh, okay grandma!"
I go and look at the "clock" she is fixing. Two things. First off, it was a heater that she was "fixing". Secondly, her style of fixing was just by looking at it. The heater must be really scared of her glare like I was so it fixed itself.
Today I found out that I am not the only one that is scared of her glare!

Got Your Nose!
You know when you were a little kid, and one of your parents or friends would grab your nose and pretend like they had your nose? Well I guess when we get older we still wonder where it has gone.
My grandma came out into the kitchen as I was doing dishes and it was getting close to lunch-time and so I asked if she was hungry. She said "no, not really" as she always does. But she decided to tell me about this phone call she had just barely had. Apparently the person on the other line had her nose and wasn't going to get it back. After a bit of conversation with the person, she finally convinced him/her to give her nose back. So she just wanted me to know that she was going to get her nose back.
You better watch out, the nose-napper is still alive and coming for you!

Her Job
My family was just finishing our Sunday dinner one night. My grandmother was telling my dad about a story about her earlier days when she would work. She told an interesting story that caught our attention.
She told my father that her mom used to get mad at her when she would work with Janet Jackson.
This is very interesting because I'm pretty sure when my grandmother was younger, Janet Jackson wasn't even alive.

Syrup Plates
It was a beautiful Sunday night. The day had been a bit warmer than usual as it has been in the winter. *Ding* *Ding*, dinner-time says my father! "You better go get your grandmother!"
"Right on it dad." I walk into her room to find her sitting on her chair watching T.V. I tell her it's time for dinner and she replies with "NOW!?"
"Grandma... It's only 7."
"Oh, okay, I'll be right in."
She opens her door, and walks very slowly into the kitchen. I am sitting down at the table waiting for my dad to bring the last thing to the table. Wini sits down at the table and as she does, she says a particular comment that catches my attention.
"I really like these plates because they look like syrup all around them."
I don't think my mother was thinking that when she purchased them.

Stolen Music
It was a nice Sunday afternoon, I was sitting at the piano trying to record a song when I heard something going on in my grandmother's room. So I opened the door that is through the piano room into her room. I see my grandma standing up by her bed holding her tiny purse. I asked her what she was doing as usual.
She goes on to tell me that her music is gone. Somebody has taken it someplace but I shouldn't worry about it now, because she'll try to find them later.
I don't know how she holds her music in her purse but it must be a miracle that she can do it!

Reading
I was cleaning the kitchen to make it look a little nicer when I decided to go check on my grandmother eating lunch. As I go in there, she hasn't touched any of it. So I tell her to eat and she stands up and grabs a part of the sandwich and was eating it. I was watching her T.V. for a bit and I looked back at my grandma and she had put the sandwich down and was looking down at her little table. I asked her what she was doing. She told me that she was reading. I look at her table to see if there are any words anywhere and there was not. So I asked her what she was reading.
"I was reading that"-as she points to her sandwich. "I was also reading that"-pointing to her napkin. Then she moved her hand to her cup and said "but I wasn't reading this."
Well I hope what she saw and read was more interesting than what I saw.

Macaroni-Bowl
It was a nice Friday mid-day. My grandmother came out telling me she was hungry which is unusual because we usually just have to give her food cause she's never hungry. So I made her a peanut butter and honey sandwich and took it into her room. On her little table by her chair was last night's dinner. Macaroni and then a little side of applesauce. Wini decided to experiment with her food today and she put some macaroni in the applesauce bowl and mix it around.
Doesn't that sound appetizing? It didn't look like it to me.

The Amazing Blanket
It was late into the afternoon one Tuesday night, I was just about to head out to my Meteorology class. I walked into my grandmother's room to check up on her. She was standing right by the door so I asked her what she was doing and if she needed anything. First off, she said she needed my father to help her look for her address book. Then she decided that I could help her instead. She started mumbling and so I couldn't understand what she was saying. She walks to her bed where these two blankets were stacked upon each other. She started telling me how her address book was what she was holding in her hand. I look down to see what she was holding.
One of her blankets. I decided not to ruin her fun with her imagination. So I go along with it. She then explains that her blanket is a tea set that is worth a lot of money. I was surprised how her blanket at one moment was a address book and then the next was an expensive tea set.
I hope I can inherit this amazing blanket!

Blue Package
*rrrr* *rrrr*, *rrrr* *rrrr*. Oh, my grandma's pill machine is going off. Time to go give her her pills. I walk in and she is standing by her chair. I give her the pills and when I am about to leave, she asks if there are any more. I reply with a nope, that was all.
She says "but there was a blue package, that I need to have."
"What blue package grandma?"
"It helps me do that thing, but don't worry, you don't need to bother yourself. I can do it on my own."
Well hopefully my grandmother does it, whatever "it" is!

The Pillow
The day had started out pretty boring. I had just been reading for my class and doing some chores for my mother. I realized that it was getting time to feed my grandma so I decided to make Chicken Cordon Bleu for both me and my grandmother. I walked into her room to tell her lunch wouldn't be ready for a while when I didn't find her in her chair, or laying in her bed. Guess I had to check the bathroom to make sure everything was alright! I walked in the bathroom to find her leaning over the sink with a lotion bottle in one hand, and a hair brush in the other. I asked her what she was doing.
Her reply is what made me smile. "Just trying to make a pillow."
I wanted to know how to make a pillow with lotion and a hair brush so I asked her how to make it. She goes on to tell me about how I need to go to the food store to get materials for the pillow and it wouldn't be hard at all.
I hope she finishes her pillow so I can try out her new product! Maybe this is what her company sells?

Yummy Socks
It was a nice winter day that my grandmother had gotten her hair done. The woman who does her hair sent Wini home with a gift, banana bread. She wrapped it in a paper towel so my grandma could eat it later. It was about lunch-time when I went into her room. I found her standing over her bed with the banana bread opened up. Half of it was laying on the paper towel, the other half was in her right hand. In her left hand she held a sock, and with that sock, she was storing that bread so she could eat it later. I sadly had to stop her from doing it anymore but on the happy side of things, I found one place she hides her food! Her socks!
Maybe if I hadn't found her doing that, she might have put that sock on the find a surprise waiting for her in the bottom of it!

Straws
My grandmother has one hobby that she likes to do all the time and what is that one hobby? Putting a straw in everything! Last Wednesday, I came home and my father asked me if I'd like anything to drink with the meal I brought back. I said no because of health reasons. But he kept on bringing it back up so I turned around to see what he was joking about. He was holding up a small lotion bottle with a straw in it that my grandma had put in it. My dad told me that she was going to try to drink it but who knows?
Today, on this cold winter morning, my grandmother had just gotten back from getting her hair done when she realized she didn't have her glasses anymore. She asked me to make a phone call to the lady she gets her hair done at. But I remembered when I took her over there, and she wasn't wearing glasses. So the search was on to find the missing glasses. As I was searching throughout the room, I found another item with a straw in it. I don't even know what it is. All I can describe it as is a small vase.
So my grandmother was trying to drink whatever has been left in the vase.
What will she drink next?

The Stolen Bed
It was a cold winter night, the beautiful smell of Cafe Rio filled the room. After finishing my meal, I went into the room of Winifred Cook to make once last check up on her before I left. At first she didn't know who I was, then after a little bit of talking, she realized who I was after I had said my name multiple times. I asked her how she was, she told me that she was okay. Then she goes on to tell me a short story...
She told me that she stole the man's bed and that is what she was sleeping on. Now because she had stolen his bed, he isn't able to sleep on it anymore. Now he has no where to sleep!
Now what will we do! This "mystery man" has no bed to sleep in for the night. Hopefully he will sleep comfortably for the night without his bed.

Locked In?
It was a winter morning, my best friend's mother, Mija, came over as she usually does on Thursdays to give my grandmother a bath. As she entered Wini's part of the house, she was not being blown back by the sound of the TV as it normally does. She looked to see if she was laying in her bed. She wasn't there. There was only one last place to look, the bathroom. As she looked down the hallway, she could see that the bathroom door was shut. She became a little concerned because this wasn't normal. When she tried to open the door, it was locked. She called Wini's name and there was a reply from inside the bathroom. Apparently, as my grandma walked into the bathroom, she pushed the door shut, and in that same motion, locking the door as it swung shut.
Wini sounded fine so there wasn't any problem there. But how to get her out? Mija tried and tried to explain to my grandmother how to unlock the door. But being in the confused state as my grandma always is in, she had no idea what to do.
A solution came to her mind. Her credit card! So she opened her purse and pulled one out. After much time at trying to open the door, she finally succeeded! The door was opened, and there sat my grandma on her toilet.
What is a solution to this? After much thought, my mother came up with a brilliant idea! Completely take out the door handle! What a smart idea? But what about when she tries to use that door again? We'll never know until it happens.

The Drawer Part 2
I came home from my class one Wednesday night to find the music of my mother's voice lessons filling the entire house. After a short while, the person taking the lesson leaves and my mom walks into the room. She tells me about what one of my grandmother's nurses told her today. Apparently Wini has lost a lot of weight and we couldn't figure out why. We were feeding her for all meals and she has been doing well with eating them. But the nurse found food in one of her drawers that she had been taking out of her meal, and placing in there.
It looks like my grandmother has been sneaking some of her food off her plate, and hiding it in the "drawer."
This is good news, and bad news. The good news is that the nurse found out why Wini has been losing weight and found the "drawer." The bad news is that my family still can't find that stupid drawer.

I'm Watching You Part 2
It was early in the night one cold day. It was starting to get to the time when my grandmother gets really crazy. She opens the door to her room and pokes her little head out. "What do you need grandma?"
"Nothing, I just want to look at you, to see what I am missing."
Well this time when she told me she wanted to look at me, I wasn't scared half to death. I took it as a compliment.

Road Trip, Destination: Long Beach, California
It was a cold winter afternoon, I was about to head off to my class. The door opens, out pops the head of Winifred Cook. She asks me if I had gotten my dad. I reply with a no and wanted to know why she had asked that. I went into Wini's room to find her standing over her bed with some clothes on the bed. I asked her why she needed my father. She goes on to tell me that she needs him because he is the only person that can get the paperwork. I ask what is the paperwork for. She explains to me that she needs the paperwork by tomorrow morning because we are going to Long Beach, California. But we aren't able to go yet because we don't have an appointment just yet. We must go to the store where Santa is, so we can figure out our problem.
If anybody knows of a Santa that is still in any stores this late after Christmas, please inform us because my family wants to figure this out so we can take our trip to Long Beach, California!
Maybe that is where her business is located! Well we'll never know unless we reach Santa!

The Brain
It was a cold winter morning, the High of the day was supposed to be 17 degrees, and the Low was supposed to be 1 degree. I am standing in the kitchen looking at the list of things my mother needs done that day. I turn around to find my grandma standing in her doorway. She was sneaky about opening the door because I didn't hear a thing. So this kind of surprised me. As usual, I ask her what she needs, and her reply goes like this:
"I need a new head, I need a brain. I need a good brain!"
Well I'm glad she's been thinking about that one for a while, and decided to come out and tell me in such a grand way!

They're Gone
It was a nice Sunday morning. The weather outside was nice and wasn't hot just yet as all summer days usually do. Wini comes out of her room and talks to her niece who had been staying with her parents in our house, on vacation. She asked Kayleen (niece) to please call Doug and Cathy to tell them where she is and so they can pick her up.
Kayleen replies with "okay, but they are here. They are just in their bedroom."
As to which she says "oh no! They are gone! They dropped me off here. Please call them and tell them where to pick me up!"
Apparently my grandmother needed to be taken somewhere by my parents very badly.

LOCK DOWN
It was a fine winter day while I was all alone at the house. My parents were in New York on vacation, Wini was at a care center. Our dog, Buddy, was the only one to keep me company. I receive a call from my mother with some interesting news!
While Wini was in the care center, she decided to walk right out of her room and into other patient rooms. That wasn't even the worst part. According to the other residents, she was going through their drawers and taking their stuff and acting as if they were hers.
Because she did this, she had to be put in lock down! She couldn't leave her room and they had to lock her in there.
I never knew that she had the capability of stealing things! She probably has taken many of my things and put them in her "drawer" that nobody can find!

Lotto
My dad decides to trek into Wini's fortress one night. He finds her sitting in her chair, holding her tissue box in one hand, and a straw in the other.
What possibly could she be doing with those two things!?
Your answer: She was playing the game Lotto on her tissue box with her straw according to Wini.
This must be a new game format! Maybe this is her business that she is creating!

A Distant Church?
My father walked into Wini's room to find her packing her clothes in her suitcase. He had to ask her where she was headed to. She replied that she was packing so she could go to church. First off, it was a Wednesday. Second off, what church could she possibly be headed to?
So those who aren't in my area, watch out for an older woman with her suitcase that comes into your chapel!

A Writing on the Mirror
My father opened Wini's door to see what she was doing late one afternoon. The sun was shining into her room as an angle that was hitting her mirror in a way that she could see the dust on it. He found her leaning over her chest of drawers with her finger on the mirror. He sat and watched to see what she was doing. Come to find out, she was writing something in the dust on her mirror.
So if you end up with her mirror sometime in the future, beware of the writings that are on the mirror!

Wini's Business
My mother came home from school one day to find Wini standing right next to her bed with all of her clothes laying on her bed with a suitcase. My mother asks her where she is going. Wini goes on to tell her that she has a business that she is over and she needs to go and maintain that business.
So if anybody hears about a business that a 90 year-old woman is running, let my family know, we are anxious to learn about this company.

General Items
It was a cold afternoon as I was watching a TV show and my grandmother walks out looking for something. I ask her what she needs and she replies with "I'm looking for some general items. Would you happen to know where some are?" I ask her what kind of general item she needs as to which she says "a hammer." She adds on that she really needs those things soon.
So if you have seen any spare "general items" laying around, my grandma would like that very much!

The Drawer
I was standing in the kitchen cleaning the dishes as my grandmother's door opens. She walks out holding a gallon of milk. The first thought that passed through my head was {how long has she had that?}. So I ask her where she got it from. Apparently she's been hiding it in one of her drawers in her room. I look at the expiration date and it expired a while ago. As to which I smell the milk inside of the carton, I could not handle the stench of the milk.
A little while passed by and she opened her door again holding a different bottle. A V8 bottle was in her hand. I ask her again where she got that bottle from and she replied yet again, in her drawer.
My parents both have searched for this drawer, I have searched for this drawer, it is no where to be found.
We need to find the drawer that my grandma is holding all of our fridge's drinks in! Watch out, she might take something of yours and hid it in her drawer and you'll never find it again!!!!

I'm Watching You
It was a nice winter morning, I decided to read the assignment for my philosophy class. I sat in the recliner chair and was sitting peacefully as I read. My grandmother's door opens and her head pokes out just as she always does. She starts staring at my direction because she can't fully see me. The look on her face looked like pure anger.
I ask "Grandma, what do you need?"
Her reply "nothing, I just want to watch you."
I've never been more scared of my grandmother...
